Dance Music Memories from the Elementary School Days

The music of my elementary school days was great because this music was so memorable to hear on the radio.  There were great songs like Jump Around, by The House of Pain, or Gonna Make you Sweat (Every Dance Now).  I will tell you the songs by Grade Number.

Grade II (1990 - 1991)

In Grade II, my brother moved in with my Grandfather in March 1991.  Every night, he will sleep with the radio on and I hear very intersting music.  I searched for the station until my brother put it on for me.  The station was AM 640 The Hog.  These are the songs of that year.

Get Ready For This, 2 Unlimited (1991)

I Don't Need Yo Kiss, Love and Sas (1991)

I Wanna Sex You Up, Color Me Badd, (1991) When I heard this song for the first time, I was dreaming about my trip to Nickelodeon Studios.  During the dream, I was with my class in a room within Nickelodeon Studios and than we were supposed to stand for O Canada.  Once the music started, than I woke up and realized it was my radio playing "I wanna Sex You Up"

Twlight Zone, 2 Unlimited (1992)

What Time Is Love, KLF, (1991)

In the Summer of 1992, AM 640 the New Beat of Toronto had a Live to Air every Tuesday night in the summertime.  I heard some interesting tracks during this live-to-air broadcast from some night club called The Factory.

In the fall of 1992, AM 640 the New Beat of Toronto had a second Live to Air known as Mix Friday's at the Mix Nightclub.  This nightclub was located at 1325 Eglington Ave.  Some of the songs listed below were played at this club.

Get with U, Lidell Townsell & M.T.F (1992).  In the summer of 1992, I heard this song on AM 640 and the sound of the cowbell reminded me of the movement of a conveyer belt. I also remember hearing this song while I was sleeping in by brother's room and I magically woke up in my own bedroom.  Was I sleep walking?

I'm in Love with You, BKS, (1992)

Grade V (1993 - 1994)

In the fall of 1993, another late-night talk show took the 11:00 - 1:00 AM time slot known as Telepersonal Radio.  In the winter of 1994, another talk show took the airwaves known as Toronto Talks took the 9:00 AM - 12:00 timeslot and Touch Tone took the 1:00 - 3:00 timeslot.  These talk shows took away the music during the day.  These talk shows played during the daytime while the young listeners are at school.

Grade VI (1994 - 1995)

In Grade VI, AM 640 the New Beat of Toronto decided to produce more boring talk show in the place of during the morning hours before school.  In November/December of 1994, I stumbled upon a better radio station on the FM Dial known as Energy 108 FM.  At the same time there was another station that played the same music called Hot 103.5 FM

Born Slippy, The Undererworld, (1995),  Aired on Electric Circus in 1996.

Higher State Of Consciousness, Josh Wink, (1995)  This song featured a Time Stretch that freaked me out while I was in bed.

Pa Pa Got a New Pig Bag Remix AKA Reach Up, Perfecto Allstarz, (1995)  I heard this song on Energy 108 or Hot 103.5 in February or March 1995.  I book bounced, DK Eye Witness books, "Aztec, Inca, and Maya" by Elizabeth Baquedano and "The Aztecs (See Through History) by Tim Wood. to this track when it dropped.  Some song lyrics I remember was, Let's Bust this house.

Electronic Music Memories from the Late 1990's

In the mid 1990's I fell in love with electronic music like trance, speed garage, and other music that has a good beat.

Rare Dance Music Tracks I only heard on the radio only once or twice.  I had these tracks on tape.  Some of the tapes have been eaten up by the cassette player.  This is a listing of my favorite tracks with a vocal Time Stretch effect.

Here are some tracks you may recognize or not

1994

The Way, Shadow VIP Mix, DJ Tatix, 1994

In December 1994 I was exposed to my first jungle / DNB track on Energy 108.  This track featured the scary vocal time stretch. When I heard the first time stretch, my stomach will cringe when I am not ready for it, especially while laying in bed.

1995

Higher State of Consciousness, Josh Wink, 1995.  This is the second track I heard that featured a deep male vocal time stretch.  I heard an acapella time stretch while I was in a dream state one night, it was very scary.  I did not know what it was.  A few weeks later, I was laying in bed, listening to the live to air from Amnesia Night Club on Hot 103.5 and heard that same time stretch and I had the unsettling feeling in my stomach.  I quickly shut the radio off and started sleeping without the radio in case I hear another scary time stretch.

1997/98

Rip Groove -- Double 99, 1997.  I taped this track from Hits 103.5 during a Live to Air broadcast in December 1997.

My Name is Barbarella-Caspar Pound & Peter Smith Remix, Barbarella, 1993.  I was very lucky to have the tape rolling on April 3, 1998 and catch this rare track.

Beautiful Day-Juniorverse Mix,  Hypertrophy 1998.  This track features a long time stretch at the top of the track.  This track only aired three times on Chris Sheppard's Pirate Radio on July 17th,  24, and 31, 1998.  I heard this track at cadet camp and I wanted to tape it.  When I got home from camp, The track was removed from the rotation

The Chant W E R -- R.I.P. Productions (1998) I taped this track off the Chris Sheppard Radio show in the spring of 1998.  This track sounds similar to Rip Groove.

I Can't Help Myself -- Lucid, 1997.  I taped this track off the Chris Sheppard Radio Show in the spring of 1998.  This is the only trance track I heard with a freaky vocal time stretch effect

Insomnia (Armand Van Helden's Mission To Mars Mix), 1997. I heard this version of Insomnia on the radio during the 9 o Clock Hard Drive mix back in the spring of 1997.

Choose Life (JDS Vocal Remix), 1997 -- PF Project. I heard this song in December 1997 on hits 103.5 during a live to air at Paparazzi Nightclub.  The tape that had this song on it was eaten up by the tape player.

The Horns of Jericho (Porn Kings Full On Remix) - DJ Supreme, I taped this track off the Chris Sheppard Radio Show in the spring of 1998.

Inferno, Souvlaki-Xtra Large Remix, 1997 I was very lucky to record this track on April 3, 1998.

Kickin Hard -- Klubheads, 1998. I recorded this song on multiple tapes from the Chris Sheppard Radio Show in the fall of 1998.  I heard this song for the first time at in the summer of 1998 at ACSTC Blackdown.

Meet Her At The Love Parade (Dextrous Mix) (1997) -- Da Hool. I have multiple copies of this track.  This track was taped from the Chris sheppard Pirate Radio Show in the spring of 1998.

Raise Your Hands Up in the Air (Klubheads Old School Remix) -- DJ Mark Van Dale Vs Klubheads, 1998. I recorded this song off the Chris Sheppard Radio Show in the fall of 1998.

Sugar Daddy-Secret Knowledge, 1993

Sugar is Sweeter (Armand's Drum and Bass Mix) -- CJ Bolland, 1996.  This track was recorded off the Chris Shepard Radio Show in 1998.

Something is Going On (Loop Da Loop Uptown Mix) -- Todd Terry, 1997.  I taped this track off the Live to Air on Hits 103.5 or the Chris Sheppard Radio Show in the winter or spring of 1998. Also listen to the Loop Da Loop Downtown Mix.

You're A Superstar - The Dogwhistle Soundsystem, remix, 1998 -- Love Inc.  This track was taped off the Chris Shepard Pirate Radio show on Hits 103.5 FM in the spring of 1998.

Memories of the Innisdale Dance a Thon

During the United Way Week, Innisdale Student's Council held a Dance A Thon in the school cafeteria.  I attended the 1999 and 2000 Dance a thon.  After midnight, some songs were played twice due to requests at the booth.  This was my first all night dance experience.  I attended the 1999 and 2000 Dance a thons.  Students had to raise 20 bucks each for United Way by collecting pledges in their neighbourhood.  I raised a lot of funds for this event both years I attended the Dance a Thon.  The Dance a Thon started at 7 PM and went till 7 AM, the next morning.

The DJ Company was called Sights and Sounds.  Their setup included two large video screens, track spots, and two flash panels on the floor.

The Grand prize was a pager, sponsored by Rogers
In 2000, I won a Rogers Pager at the Dance a Thon because I dance most of the night away.

Here is a list of some Memorable songs that were played by the Sight and Sound DJs

All Around the World, ATC, Played at the 2000 Dance a Thon

American Pie, Madonna, this song was the final song at the 2000 Dance a thon.

During the late 1990's Hip Hop was requested too much.  I wanted to dance to upbeat music like cotton eye joe, Put your hands up in the air, Why are you so Quiet, etc.

Keep your ears to the tracks for more songs that were played at both Dance a Thons.

Electric Circus

What is an Electric Circus

An Electric Circus is a dance party you can have in your living room, classroom, or clubhouse.  The Electric Circus was a TV Show on Much Music back in the 1990's.

What you need?

TV, Home Theatre, or Computer Screen

This set-up is a great example for your Elecric Circus

VHS tape recordings or youtube recordings of your favorite episiods of Electic Circus,  If you cannot find any of your old Electric Circus videos, just play your favorite songs that were played on Electric Circus.

Friends, Send them invites

Last But Not Least, Space for you and your friends to Dance the night away to your classic Electric Circus video.   Move your household furnishings out of the area where you are having your dance floor.

Sending out the Invites

You can use the Electric Circus logo posted at the top of this post and be creative..  Do not forget to put the date and time of your party on the invite before you send it out.

Party Favors

If you are hosting an electric circus, you should have a wide spread of party favors like punch, cookies, timbits, etc.  If you are having alocholic beverages, please drink responsibly.

Throwing the party

Clear your basement, rec room, etc in order to make space for your dance floor.  The dance floor should be closest to your TV or Home Theatre.  I would reccoment a Home Theatre with great sound so your partiers will enjoy the classic tracks from the 1990's.  If you are stumped in finding your old EC VHS tapes, you can Google or youtube search Electric Circus and turn up the music.  Go Dance

Electric Circus Play List

Keep your Ears to the Tracks for songs to be added

Tid Bits

Did you know I had an Electric Circus in my Grade X English Class at 9:00 AM.

Music of my Elementry School Days

The music of my elementary school days was great because this music was so memorable to hear on the radio.  There were great songs like Jump Around, by The House of Pain, or Gonna Make you Sweat (Every Dance Now).  I will tell you the songs by Grade Number.

Grade II (1990 - 1991)

In Grade II, my brother moved in with my Grandfather in March 1991.  Every night, he will sleep with the radio on and I hear very intersting music.  I searched for the station until my brother put it on for me.  The station was AM 640 The Hog.  These are the songs of that year.

Everybody Dance Now, C + C Music Factory

Finally, CeCe Peniston

Unbelievable - EMF

Grade III (1991 - 1992)

In 1991 - 1992, There was great music on AM 640 and this was the year that the station's name changed to The New Beat of Toronto.

3 AM Eternal, KLF, 1991

James Brown is Dead, LA Style -- (1991, 1992)

Get Ready for this, 2 Unlimited (1991)

Twlight Zone, 2 Unlimited (1992)

Grade IV (1992 - 1993)

In the fall of 1992, AM 640 the New Beat of Toronto had a second Live to Air known as Mix Friday's at the Mix Nightclub.  This nightclub was located at 1325 Eglington Ave.  Some of the songs listed below were played at this club.

Rhythem is  a Dancer, Snap (1992)

I will Always Love You, Whitney Houston (1992)

Sesame's Treat, Smart E 's (1992)

Mr Vain, Culture Beat (1993)

In the Spring of 1993, Jessie and Jean took the airwaves of AM 640 between 5:30 - 9:00 AM every Monday - Friday.  This was the first talk show that aired on AM 640. There was also a late-night talk show that took the airwaves too.

In Grade VI, AM 640 the New Beat of Toronto decided to produce more boring talk show in the place of during the morning hours before school.  In December of 1994, I found a better radio station on the FM Dial known as Energy 108 FM.  At the same time there was another station that played the same music called Hot 103.5 FM

Fluxland, XL (1994), In 2000, KernKraft created Zombie Nation.  Sometimes the DJs may mix Fluxland XL and Zombie Nation back to back.

The Way (The VIP Mix), DJ Taktix, This jungle track has lots of vocal time stretching and contains the word Misplace. This was the first time I heard that freaky sound on the radio.

Think About the Way, Ice MC (1993)  When I heard this song for the first time, Energy 108 FM played the Noche de Luna Mix.  I thought this was the original version to my ears. I heard the Radio version of Think About the Way later on 103.5 in 1995.  I thought the radio verison was a remix.
