Synopsis

Proper perfect panto! Ben Crocker has transformed the well-loved story of the spellbound sleeping princess into a very funny traditional pantomime. The wicked fairy Carabosse is mightily miffed when she and her naughty feline accomplice Spindleshanks don’t et an invite to the royal christening. Can brave Fairy Peaceful save Princess Aurora from the death spell and keep her safe for her dream prince? And How will the bubbly Queen Mum and cuddly hubby Norbert cope with a very long sleep-over? Spectacle, enchantment, tuneful songs, toe-tapping dances, riotous slapstick and the funniest evil duo ever.

The Mady Centre, Evening Gala

The Five Points Theatre

Grand Opening Gala

The Five Points Theatre Formerly known as the Mady Centre is now officially open for your upcoming productions, film screenings, recitals, and other events.

As the sun sets on opening day of the Barrie Downtown Community Theatre, everyone gathers outside for the unveiling of the name of the theatre.

Following the Unveiling of the theatre name,  everyone files into the new theatre for the Evening Gala.  The gala featured various acts from Song, Dance, and Stand-Up Comedy.  Scott A. Hurst recited the following passage from The Tempest.

"do look, my son, in a moved sort,
As if you were dismay'd: be cheerful, sir.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep. Sir, I am vex'd;
Bear with my weakness; my, brain is troubled:
Be not disturb'd with my infirmity:
If you be pleased, retire into my cell
And there repose: a turn or two I'll walk,
To still my beating mind. (The Tempest Act 4 Scene 1)"

To wrap things up a short slide presentaion of the Surgery of the Mady Centre was shown to a live performance of the Seasons of Love from RENT.

Barrie Downtown Community Theatre, Grand Opening

The Five Points Theatre Grand Opening,

September 10, 2011

The Surgery is now complete and on the 10th Day of September, The Mady Centre for the Performing Arts will be opening.

Surgery Recap

In March, 2010, Barrie Council decided to demolish the Scotia Bank building and rebuild a new building instead of renovating.  In July, 2010, The Old Bank Theatre was ripped down and a big pit severed the ground until the basement was installed.  February, 2011, The structure started to emerge from the pit.  As the surgery continued into the spring of 2011, the outer walls were blueskinned, panelled and the decorative finish was installed.  By July, 2011, the steel fences came down and the sidewalks were opened and people can get a closer look at the new theatre.

The Grand Opening of the Mady Centre for Performing Arts (Downtown Community Theatre) Has arrived.

The Band Feedback played on the stage beside the Simcoe Hotel until the Ribbon Cutting at high Noon.

The Five Points intersection in Downtown Barrie was closed for the first time in history to celebrate the opening of the new Mady Centre for Performing Arts.

People gather outside the building, wanting to get their first peek of the new Downtown Community theatre

The Mayor and important people pose for a photo opportunity before the ribbon cutting.

At High Noon, Mayor Jeff Leiman cuts the ribbon and declares the Mady Centre for the Performing Arts open.

For the rest of the day, people were able to tour the theatre.

Hot Dogs were roasting on the BBQ

The community was treated to cake

There was music on the Outdoor Stage, the lower lobby and inside the theatre.

A great Rapper named LDS played a quick set before taking off to another gig in Toronto.

Don't Forget, the Yellow Jackets were having a buzzing good time with their share of the orange drink.

Barrie Downtown Community Theatre: Under The Knife Part XXIV

Post Surgery Update

August, 15, 2011

I finally got to take a sneak peak inside the Downtown Community Theatre for the first time.  The bulk of the surgery is complete.  The painters are making the finishing touches as I toured around the building.  The building will officially open on September 10, 2011 if everything goes according to plan.

The seats all fold into the walls.  Various theatre companies can configure the seating to how they would like it.

The dressing rooms have their own washroom and showers for the actors.  Before the Grand Opening, these rooms will be furnished.

The roll-up door will be painted a dark grey to match all the rest of the building's colour scheme.  The colour scheme is a combination of black, olive green, and dark grey.

There is tones of more work to be done on the Downtown Community Theatre before the offical opening on September 10, 2011.  Furniture has to be installed in the dressing rooms, offices, etc.

What do you think Theatre By the bay will show for the 2012's Main Company?

Theatre by the Bay will more likely show one of Shakespeare's comedies and below is a list of the shows that they may show.  The titles that are in bold were already shown and they may not be seen for 100 years.
